Visiting Santa

Today I took the kids to the newly refurbished Bayshore Mall to visit Santa.  Charles wasn't much in favor of the trip, he's not so much a fan of the jolly old elf.  What a scrooge!

So we went without him.  And the kids had a great time…   D showed no fear, walked right up in his most excited, somewhat prancing fashion, and asked Santa for a pinball machine.  The quality/authenticity of Santa and his photo-taking elves was not the greatest.  I think Santa was Russian (he certianly spoke with an accent) and the elf-ladies were just sleepy and lackluster.  They don't really care about it unless you buy the photo package, which I usually do, but we couldn't get Rose in the picture, and they were just sort of jerky about it, so I figured I'd pass this year.

Rose proved Charles wrong, though.  He said she'd hate Santa, but she walked right up to him, said 'hello' and then hung out while Dillon talked to Santa.  When we were trying to get her into the picture, Santa asked her if she knew what she wanted for Christmas.  It was funny, because I don't know if she knows what Christmas is, etc., but she said 'yes' clear as day.  She NEVER says yes.  She says no, even often when she means yes.  But she said yes, and then proceeded to rattle off a list which no one understood.  Dillon thought it was supremely funny, though.

Then Santa gave us Midwest Airlines cookies and sent us on our way.  We sat down while Dillon attempted to eat around the chocolate chips, because he dislikes chocolate so much.  Rose took two bites and gave me hers.  After a group potty break in which we had three bodies in one bathroom stall, we went home.

Peter Pan

For those of you in the Milwaukee Area, go see Peter Pan at the Modjeska Youth Theatre now through December 10th.  It was fantastic, and Dillon LOVED it tremendously!  They actually 'fly' the kids in and out on wires, it really was tons of fun.

He was so into it, that during intermission he asked me for one of the t-shirts, and I bought it for him, but then he rolled it up and put it into my purse very quickly.  It turned out he was worried about 'Captain Hook' spotting it!  But we cleared that up pretty quickly.

On our way out, we saw one of the 'pirates', and Dillon was totally star-struck.  He waved shyly, and the pirate stopped to talk to him, and D couldn't say two words!  He was just grinning from ear to ear and shaking his head yes and no.  The pirate told him that D could audition next year-they start kids at six-and D was totally excited by that.  He can't wait…  But he would have been a great lost boy in this show, I'm disappointed we missed out on it!
